In keeping
with its mission and vision, Cheryl’s offers a Christian environment that
caters to the children’s unique needs.
Many of these children have seen their parents die young or have been
subjected to the violence and neglect that is endemic in the slums. All have known and most continue to
live in extreme poverty. Sixty-five orphans live on site and are housed in 2
permanent dormitories and 140 are monitored in foster homes. Cheryl’s provides food, clothing and
education for both groups of children.
5% of the children live with family in the community but rely on
Cheryl’s for aid in education and guidance.
Children
arrive at Cheryl’s through various channels. Kenyan social services, local police, extended or immediate
family all make requests for rescue and CCH works closely with these to ensure
that children most in need are served.
Some of the children are featured below. As of Feb. 1 2010 less than half are
sponsored. The goal is to have
every child know the warmth, caring and security that comes from sponsors either
in Kenya or abroad.
