CCHLC exists to socially and economically empower orphans and destitute children by providing an environment that guarantees development of the children to their fullest potential. It is our Mission, our purpose, our passion. We place parentless children in families where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipline, care and nurture, and we meet their physical needs.
Mission - To raise
Cheryl's Children through pursuit of excellence in academic and practical
skills and by modeling integrity in conduct and Christian moral values so that
each will learn his/her place as a productive and proud Kenyan citizen and
leader.
Vision - A nation of
proud and upstanding Kenyans where all children are given an equal chance to
reach their fullest potential.
Philosophy - Unconditional
love, consistent guidance and a firm academic basis will ensure a bright future
for Cheryl's and for all children. Based on a Christian philosophy of
care, CCHLC is non-denomination and does not make tribal distinctions.

History
Cheryl’s Children’s Home is a registered Christian Charitable organization. Founded in 1999 to serve children and the marginalized communities in Kenya, it is not simply a rescue centre for those forgotten, orphaned, abused, abandoned and hungry. It is a place for these children to call home, where they learn to know the value of a family in which they are cared for, loved and educated until such time as they can take care of themselves and their own future families in society.
The origin of the organization is Kibera slum in Nairobi where founders Sam and Grace, parents themselves, could not ignore the plight of orphaned and destitute children in the slum who had lost their parents to AIDS, different diseases and other effects of poverty. They took children into their own home treating these children as their own and this charitable act is modeled at Cheryl’s Home where children are provided with parental love, care, affection and guidance from a full time social worker who knows the story of each child. These children need time to heal, to trust and to hope again and at Cheryl’s it does happen. Smiles return to the faces of these once forgotten children. And all are welcome. There is no distinction in tribal origins both with respect to the children and with the staff.
The increasing number of orphans led to the building of the first temporary structure that accommodated 25 orphans. With an ever-increasing need for space and because of a flood in the original centre in 2000, the home was relocated to Dagoretti Corner where it was privileged to receive a one-acre plot donated by the Kenya government through the Kenyan Railways Corporation. At present CCHLC cares for over 200 children either through direct or foster homes. 80% of the children are orphans, 15% semi orphans and 5% from destitute families. The majority of the orphans are HIV/AIDS affected; however no child is infected. Many of the children of primary school age receive their education on site. Area children benefit from the school as well.
